When you are charged, the seemingly limitless power and resources of the state are pit against you. Many accuseds feel powerless; overwhelmed. Most accuseds quickly realize that they are in over their head. In theory, laws are drafted simply. In reality, the law is inordinately complex. Every law has exceptions, and every exception has yet more exceptions.
Our firm practices exclusively in the area of criminal law. We are in court daily. We deal with Crown Attorneys daily and are on a first name basis with all local Crowns. We appear in front of the local roster of Judges of both the Ontario and Superior Court of Justice regularly. Our firm defends persons charged with any criminal offence. The two most common statutes governing criminal offences are the Criminal Code of Canada and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. We have also defended persons charged under the Income Tax Act, the Copyright Act, the Excise Tax Act amongst other statutes. Charges have included but are not limited to domestic assault, impaired driving, dangerous driving, sexual assault, drug possession, drug trafficking, fraud, theft, break and enter, robbery, kidnaping, forcible confinement, breach of probation, breach of recognizance, weapons offences, murder, manslaughter, and possession of child pornography. The firm practices predominantly in the Ottawa area, but regularly defends cases in Cornwall, Brockville, Smith Falls, Perth, Renfrew, Pembroke, LOrignal and other surrounding communities.
